The Latino Scholarship Fund Committee and LEDC are pleased to offer the 11th annual Latino Scholarship Fund Awards. The scholarships are available to high school seniors entering college or another post-secondary not-for-profit institution. These scholars will need to have a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship program is created to help students attend a public college or university or other not-for- profit post-secondary educational institution for undergraduate study. The amount of the award will be of $4,000 for each year.
The Latino Economic Development Center is a statewide membership-based nonprofit organization whose headquarters are located in Minneapolis. An ethnic/membership-based Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), it is certified by the US Department of Treasury and by the MN State Council of OICs and OIC America as an Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC). It’s mission “To transform our community by creating economic opportunity for Latinos.”
Eligibility:
To be eligible, high school/alternative school seniors must be:
A Minnesota high school or alternative school graduating senior entering a post-secondary institution in 2017
A student of Latino origin (or who has one or both parents who were born in a Latin American country*)
Minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
Ability to attend the summer Latino Scholarship Fund golf tournament
To be eligible, adults must be:
A Minnesota resident adult returning or enrolling for their first undergraduate degree or certificate
Students must be enrolled at a higher education institution at some point in 2017
A student of Latino origin (or whose one or both parents were born in a country in Latin America)
Non-traditional student is defined as an adult who did not enroll in college the fall following their spring graduation
from high school, or a student who graduated with a GED or other high school diploma equivalent
Supporting Documents:
High school/alternative school seniors must submit the following documents along with the application:
- Applicant data sheet
- Three letters of recommendation – one from each of the following:
- A supervisor or mentor from your job or from a community or school service program (The Latino Scholarship Fund Advisory Committee places high priority on leadership and/or participation in community and/or school service, as well as academic achievement.)
- An academic advisor or teacher
- An adult, non-relative
- High school transcript, including grades for the first semester of the senior year
- Personal essay
Adults must submit the following documents along with the application:

Financial Aid and Award Money:
Three scholarship awards of $4,000 will be made for the first and second year of academic studies, for a total of $8,000 per student. For both scholarship categories, winners must renew their application.
